Where are we?
This season started with a bang. For the first time in 70 yeas and only the third time in history, UR beat UVA. The following week presented a lot of challenges for the school and for the football team in particular. The team pulled together to beat an outmanned Norfolk State squad with former head coach Latrell Scott and former Spider Aaron Corp on the sideline. The following week, the wheels fell off the bus and the Spiders fell to Stony Brook 42-14.
Since that game, the Spiders have struggled to repeat the quality football they played against UVA but have still managed to beat two top 25 teams and have found ways to grit out wins in the process. They're not winning well but they're winning and there's a lot to be said for that in college football. Without winning another game, this year's Spiders record would be as good or better than 10 of the Spider teams from the end of WWII to the end of the Millennium.
Looking ahead
Spidernation looked at the four teams with only 1 loss to compare upcoming schedules. What team do you think has the easiest route to the conference title, based on paper?
In looking out at the future schedules, Team A has two real rough road games with one tough home game. Team B has three rough road games ahead. Team C has a couple of tough home games. Team D has a tough home game and the rest of the games are against reasonable opposition.
I think I'd rather be Team C or Team D.
Who's Who?
A - Albany
B- JMU
C- Richmond
D- Villanova
This weekend is exceptionally important to UR's chances at a CAA title. They return to the friendly confines of the Brickhouse and have an opportunity to continue their steady improvement with a win over the always tough Villanova Wildcats.
