October 17, 2009 ORONO, Maine (AP)-Eric Ward ran for a touchdown and passed for another to help Richmond rally for the second the week to beat Maine 38-21 on Saturday. It was the 15th straight win for the Spiders (6-0, 4-0 Colonial Athletic Association), who have the longest win streak in the Football Championship Series. Richmond scored 28 unanswered points in the second half in the comeback against the Black Bears (3-3, 2-2). The Spiders rallied to beat James Madison 21-17 last Saturday. Ward, who passed for 108 yards (12/21/1), threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Donte Boston to pull the Spiders to within 17-14 in the third quarter. He also ran for a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Dereck Hatcher ran a punt back 90 yards for a TD that seemed to end all questions about the final outcome. And if that were not enough Garrett Wilkins followed that up with a 57 yard TD run from scrimage. As a direct result of the injury to Brian Radford Wil Kamin, true freshman kicker gave up his red shirt year and handled the kickoffs today. He showed he could boot them deep on several occasions. Maine's Warren Smith went 35-for-58 for 327 yards, threw two touchdowns and rushed for another score. Tyrell Jones caught nine passes for 78 yards, including touchdown catches of 21 and 14 yards. |
